A BUSH fire has killed four people in Kasempa District in North-Western Province.
The four were burnt to death when the bush fire engulfed the vegetable garden where they were working from.
North-Western Province Commissioner of Police, Elias Chushi has confirmed that the incident happened yesterday between 12:00 and 13: 00 hours in Kamatete area.
Mr Chushi told ZANIS in Solwezi that the four were engulfed by the fire allegedly started by Arnold Nsutwe aged 31 of the same area.
He said Diamond Katamisha, a Zambia Wildlife officer, reported that Bridget Malupande 38, Japhet Kakompe aged 4, Javan Kakompe aged two were burnt to death while Precious Malupande aged 18 was rushed to Mukinge Mission Hospital where she died as a result of severe burns.
He said the bodies of the deceased are lying in Mukinge hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial while Arnold Nsutwe has been apprehended to assist the police with investigations.
Meanwhile, an 18 year old man of Solwezi District has died on the spot after being hit by a truck on the Solwezi-Mutanda road near Petroda filling station.
Mr Chushi said a truck driver, Original Mutinta aged 42 of Lusaka while driving a Volvo truck registration number ACL 6083 hit into a cyclist identified as Thomas Chewe of Kimiteto area in SolweziDistrict.
The provincial police chief said the deceased was hit as he tried to cross in front of the truck that was close forcing the driver to flip off as he tried to avoid hitting the cyclist.
He said the deceased sustained fatal injuries and bruises on the face and died on arrival at Solwezi General Hospital while the driver and the passenger sustained cuts to their head and body.
He said the two injured driver and passenger are admitted at SolweziGeneral Hospital while the deceased is lying in the same hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
