BUUMBA CHIMBULU writes A LUSAKA engineering firm, Beyazit is ready to commercially roll-out ‘walk-in’ tunnel sanitisers, in all busy places such as shopping malls toe ensure continuity of business. This is an innovation that enhances health protocols, especially in public places following the easing of restrictions to curb covid-19. Company Chief Executive Officer, Evren Kurtay, explained that the innovation was especially useful in places such as schools, bus stops, shopping malls, markets, construction sites and other public places. “Our walk-in tunnel sanitiser works in the same way a drive-through car wash machine does, and enhances health protocols by disinfecting fully-clothed people one at a time,” Mr Kurtay said. Mr Kurtay said the ‘ready-for-deployment’ innovation could not have come at a better time when the critical question of how to live with covid-19, possibly for a long time, was at the forefront of society cross-cutting stakeholders.  He expressed confidence that the ‘walk-in’ sanitisers would offer additional insurance of clamping down on the spread of covid-19. “Right now, the majority of Zambians were under strict social distancing rules, wearing of masks and sheltering in, and there was no knowing when life would return to normal. “For a year or more, we will go through a period we are not accustomed to, and the normal we are used to might not come back. So, this is our response to the challenge of addressing the question of what the changed future would look,” he said. Mr Kurtay said his company’s innovation was additional insurance to minimise the risk of flare-ups as society reopened.  Turkey, India, China and South Africa have already adopted similar innovations of whole clothed body sanitising innovations to ensure reopening of social and economic activities was done safely.
