Baby saves marijuana farmer from jail
A 27-YEAR-OLD woman of Mapanza in Choma convicted for cultivating Marijuana will have her baby to thank after the court slapped her with a 24 months suspended sentence. According to Byta Fm in Choma, Cornet Matimba was appearing before Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo on charges of unlawful cultivation of Marijuana and trafficking in psychotropic substances. Magistrate Mupemo found Matimba guilty after she amended her plea from innocent to guilty Tuesday in the Choma Magistrates Court. Matimba is accused of trafficking 5.21grams of Marijuana on 22nd July 2020 in addition to unlawfully cultivating 11 plants of the same controlled plant. According to a statement of facts, Drug Enforcement Officers saw Matimba throw something through the window of her house which later turned out to be Marijuana. She also led the officers to her vegetable garden where they found 11 plants of Marijuana. Meanwhile, Matimba pleaded for forgiveness saying she fears her child would be exposed to infections at the Correctional facility. Magistrate Mupemo has since sentenced the accused person to 24 months in both counts, suspended for 24 months – meaning she will serve it outside prison. The magistrate informed the accused person that she was allowed to go because of her baby. – ZANIS. The Sun
