Arrows extend Chamanga’s stay, release 6
MATHEWS NDANDULA writes THE 2019/20 Super Division League top scorer has had his stay at the Zambia Airforce side Red Arrow Football Club extended, while the club has released some long standing players. The announcement also sees the departure of Danny Munyao, Daniel Sibanda, Bronson Chama, Evans Musonda, Jimmy Chisenga, Joseph Zimba alongside Alex Sichone, Rodrick Zimba and Webster Mulenga. However, Sibanda, Munyao, Chama and Mulenga have been offered coaching roles at Red Arrows. In a statement issued by Red Arrows Media and Public Relations officer Misheck Kalembwe the club has confirmed Chamanga’s stay. “Red Arrows Football Club has successfully concluded negotiations to extend the stay of former Chipolopolo star James Chamanga and defender Elvis Akangamba Bissong. The 2019/2020 Zambia Super League golden boot winner will stay at Nkoloma for another season, while the Cameroonian defender kingpin has extended his stay for another two years. “Meanwhile, international midfielder Bruce Musakanya has moved to Zesco United football club for a 2 years long loan deal following successful negotiations with the Ndola based outfit,” the statement reads. The club says new arrivals at Nkoloma will be announced as soon as all transfer bids are concluded. And during an event at the Club Secretariat, Red Arrows FC Chairman Colonel Innocent Jere said Arrows was highly indebted for the invaluable contributions that the players made to the team and nation. “As we part ways and release you today, Arrows is highly indebted for your huge and invaluable contributions you made to the team and the Nation throughout this long faithful football journey. Your names and contributions will forever remain in the Zambia national football team and Arrows book of legends. Arrows still remain your home and we can only wish you the best of luck in your new roles to come or indeed your future endeavours,” added Col Jere. The former national team striker is expected to continue banging goals for Red Arrows as the new season starts in October. Chamanga who played at four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments topped the top scorers’ charts with 16 goals in the FAZ/MTN Super League. He was at the 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with his final tournament appearance reaping a gold medal.Recently, the super striker insisted that his decision not to take up a national team call up still stands. “My mind is made, I am 40 years old and I think rather than calling me who will only give one year to the team, I would rather you identify a 15-year-old who will give you more than 10 years,” Chamanga said. “We have to focus on building for the future and groom a team that will take us to the World Cup. I have done my part and I am leaving it for young people to step in.” The Sun
