Alcohol addicts get minister’s advice
MULENGA MUSONDA writes If you know you are an addict and shiver if you haven’t taken alcohol please buy takeaways and drink from home because that is allowed, Southern Province Minister has said. Dr. Edify Hamukale made this appeal to Bar patrons when he received a donation of K700,000 at Choma Municipal Council from GIZ to the 13 Councils in Southern Province towards the fight against Covid-19. The Minister said, he has been receiving reports of suspected senior Patriotic Front and United Party for National Development officials in Mazabuka and Monze that they are leading people into drinking beers in the open with impunity. “I am quite unhappy to be receiving frequent reports that party officials from both the Patriotic Front and the UPND, senior ones for that matter have been leading gangs of people drinking beers when you all perfectly know that it’s flouting government regulations,” the minister said. “I expect you, as Senior Officials, to work with the Councils to support the government in ensuring that your members comply, now if you are a Senior Official and you are found buying beers in the open and with so much impunity , do not blame us if we send Police” he said The Minister called upon all the party members involved in this vice to be patriotic and behave accordingly as such behaviour will not be tolerated. “And for all our brothers you perfectly know that the President said the Bars are not yet open. You are still free to take away a drink. Also drink in your exclusivity, somewhere. There is no harm, I think that is still allowed If you are an addict and you shiver a lot if you haven’t taken a drink.” “Unfortunately if you are single very few ladies will say yes to your marriage proposal if you are a drunkard, this is the only disadvantage” he said. Dr Hamukale also called on parents to buy their children at least a box of Masks and Soap as they reopen Schools in June in addition to what Government will provide. And donating the materials comprising of Drums, Sprayers , Soaps etc worth  K700,000  GIZ Institutional Advisor to the Local Government Theo Julius said the Hand Sanitizers and Liquid Soaps must be dotted in strategic places like Bus Stations and Trading places where member of the public can easily access them.
