Aggravated robbery accused sent to High Court for trial
RABECCA BANDA Writes@SunzambianA LUSAKA man charged with aggravated robbery has been committed to the High Court for trial.The Director of Public Persecutions has issued a certificate to commit the accused, Mathews Phiri, 33 of Chazanga on charges of aggravated robbery.Phiri appeared at the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ruth Kapulo for explanation of aggravated robbery charges.Magistrate Kapulo told the accused that he was appearing for explanation because the offences are tried at the High Court.Phiri is charged with three counts of aggravated robbery contrary to the laws of Zambia.In count one, it is alleged that Phiri on September 27, 2020 with other persons unknown and armed with a knife stole K3, 100 and a television set, property of Ms Annie Mutumi and at or immediately after stealing useduse or threatened to use violence to obtain or overcome resistance.In count two, it is alleged that Phiri on October 12, 2020 with other persons unknown and armed with a knife stole a three cell phone, 1gb hard drive, CPU, laptop, a K20 monitor, property of Mr Francis Nyirenda, valued at K24, 900 and at or immediately after stealing used or threatened to use violence to obtain or overcome resistance for the things stolen.The public prosecutor informed magistrate Kapulo that the Director of Public Prosecution had issued the certificate and the magistrate committed him to the High Court for trial.
