ACTUALISE MARIJUANA GROWING, GOVT URGED
By JOHN KOMBEACTUALISATION of marijuana as a money spinner for Zambia should be expedited because the country is missing out on billions of dollars in revenue, the Zambia Hemp Growers and Industries Association (ZHGIA) has said.ZHGIA president and chief executive officer, Peter Sinkamba, said the legislation process must be expedited so that the country could begin to benefit from the potential “money spinner.”Mr. Sinkamba who is Green Party president observed that the legislation process had been very slow and hoped that the President’s pronouncement would trigger a positive response. He pointed out that Cabinet had already approved in principle the cultivation and exportation of cannabis for medicinal, industrial and economic purposes.Mr Sinkamba however bemoaned the slow pace at which the implementation of the review of the legislation was going. According to him, Government had even taken the matter to parliament and yet nothing tangible had come up so far.He said ZHGIA had hoped that the review of legislation would have ended by last month.
