‘ACC IS TOOTHLESS’
By SILUMESI MALUMO THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is toothless and has failed to nip corruption in the bud, says United Party for Prosperous Zambia (UPPZ) president Charles Chanda. Mr Chanda urged the ACC to up its game to curb corruption in the country.  He said the conduct of the ACC was making the work of President Edgar Lungu difficult. Mr Chanda said the ACC needed to be alert all the time and ensure that cases of corruption were pursued vigorously. He said in an interview yesterday that the ACC was not supposed to act after a public outcry because that showed that it was incompetent. “What we have right now is a weak Anti-Corruption Commission because it is unable to bite the perpetrators of corruption. The issue of Honeybee was revealed by whistle blowers and it has been in the media several times but nothing has been done. “If we really had the Anti-Corruption Commission in Zambia whatever is happening should have been attended to and those found wanting they were supposed to be brought to book right now,” he said. Mr Chanda said the ACC should be on top of things to inform the public about individuals involved in corruption, which was disadvantaging the growth of the country. “Why should ACC wait for the President to fire a minister and then portray as if they are working and telling the nation that it has been investigating the matter for some time now? We have a weak commission that is why we are seeing corruption activities continue to rise,” Mr Chanda said.
