3 agrovet dealers convicted, fined for operating illegally
MULENGA MUSONDAwrites@SunZambian THREE agro vet dealers have been convicted and fined for operating their business without certifications from relevant bodies by the Choma Magistrates Court. Ronald Mushimbalume, Milambo Mambo and Bruce Micheelo all pleaded guilty to operating unregistered agro vet shops contrary to the Medicines and Allied Substances Act of the Laws of Zambia. Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo convicted the three and fined Micheelo K5, 000, Mushimbalume K8, 000 and Milambo K12, 000. The fines are to be paid on or before February 5, 2021 or in default to serve nine months imprisonment with hard labour. Particulars of the offences are that the trio who were separately operating Ackley’s Agro Vet, Mamila General Dealers and Michi Agro Vet illegally operated without certificates from the Director of Zambia Medicines and  Regulatory Authority. The incidents happened between June and December 2020 before a combined team of ZAMRA and Zambia Police pounced on the illegal businesses in Choma. When the inspections were conducted, it was discovered that compliance of medicine storage was not adhered to and that the businesses were not registered with relevant bodies. When the three appeared for facts and sentencing, they all admitted that the facts were the correct reflection of what happened but insisted that drugs were kept according to standard regulations.
