ZESCO BATTLING TO REGAIN LAND UNDER PYLONS
By ADRIAN MWANZA ZESCO is battling to recover its “stolen” land under the high voltage pylons along Tokyo Way in Lusaka and has now placed security personnel to guard. Unscrupulous individuals had allocated themselves pieces of the Zesco land and some had started building on it. Zesco Senior Manager for Corporate Affairs, John Kunda, said the power utility company managed to carry out a raid to stop the illegality. Dr Kunda said that the corporation moved in quickly as encroaching on such land was very dangerous. He said Zesco would not allow lawlessness and that all those that would be found wanting needed to face the law. “I can confirm that we carried out an operation where people started allocating land to themselves in an area near Mosi -o-Tunya and Ring Road which is very dangerous because high voltage pylons pass over the tract of land,” he said. Dr Kunda said he could not give the total number of arrests made because he needed to get to the security personnel but some people were picked up.
