NORTH Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu has inspected the construction of the new market in Zambezi District.Mr Mubukwanu has also commanded Zambezi town council for the prudent utilization of resources.Zambezi Town Council is constructing a modern market at a cost of K730 thousand through the local government equalization fund, of which construction has reached 90 percent.Speaking when he toured the market recently, Mr Mubukwanu expressed happiness towards the quality of work being done as well as the good management of resources.He said government desires that resources are well utilized as exhibited at the construction of a market in Zambezi.“For a long time now, government has a long standing commitment in utilization of resources as this is enshrined in the seventh national development plan”, he said.Mr. Mubukwanu has since urged the council to be vigilant and never to accept sub-standard work as that would waste government resources and in turn pose a danger to the public and future generation.He further urged contractors to show patriotism whenever they are given a contract and warned them to refrain from substandard works.“It is one thing to make policies and another to follow it to the letter. Let us work together and develop our country by implementing the good policies we ourselves have come up with, he said.Mr Mubukwanu assured the marketers of continued government support as well as improve the standard of living particularly the women.“All you need to do is to form cooperatives so that you are able to access the different empowerment funds that government is constantly offering. Apart from the famous presidential empowerment, government has several empowerments which include social cash transfer, FISP, aqua-farming among others,” he added.Mr. Mubukwanu said government has been encouraging formation of cooperatives over the years because it has been proved that cooperative is an effective way for people to exert control over their economic livelihood and that cooperative play a role in facilitating job creation, economic growth and social development.“Don’t work in isolation, I call upon all women to come on board and change the status call and form cooperatives that are attractive in nature with good objectives that can play an important role in combating social exclusion,” he said.Meanwhile, Zambezi Council Secretary, Reuben Sifukwe thanked government for the continued support and pledged to work hard.“We are aware that government is spending colossal sum of money in building these infrastructures and so as council we will strive to ensure that the resources are well utilized by coming up with infrastructures that will stand the test of time, Mr. Sifukwe said.-ZANIS The Sun
