Youth impregnates Grade 8 pupil
MARY PHIRI writes A 45-YEAR-OLD Security guard of Ndola’s Kabushi Township has dragged another man to court for deflowering his 19-year-old daughter. In this matter, Costa Mulima sued Shaderick Zulu, 24, of the same area for compensation for damages of virginity of his daughter. Mulima told the Kabushi Local Court that Zulu deflowered his daughter and she was seven months pregnant with his child. He said that he just wanted Zulu to pay for what he had done and was not interested in him marrying his daughter. “My daughter is in Grade Eight, so now she has to stay back a bit and give birth. She would have been completing school by now but due to some challenges plus this has also contributed, so I don’t even want him to marry my daughter. I want her to complete school that’s why he has to pay for damages,” he said. In his testimony, Zulu admitted that he was responsible for the pregnancy and had intentions of marrying the girl. But Mulima responded in rage that Zulu could not marry his daughter because he had also promised marriage to another girl who he had a child with. “The same girl was just from giving birth and the baby is three months, then he wants to promise marriage to my daughter, I won’t accept that,” Mulima fumed. Presiding magistrate Agness Mulenga sitting with Evelyn Nalwizya adjourned the case to a later date. “When your daughter gives birth, come back to court we finish the case, that’s when judgment will be given. In the meantime Zulu will be given a list of necessities required when a woman is pregnant,” Ms Nalwizya said. The Sun
