ONE person has been arrested at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) for illegally collecting money from patients for Covid-19 tests, Health Minister, Jonas Chanda has said. A MUVI Television undercover reporter unearthed a scam in which some emplyees were charging K250 for a Covid-19 test, when the procedure is supposed to be free. Dr Chanda said in Lusaka yesterday that one person was already in police custody. He explained that internal investigations had been instituted extending to several departments to identify the full extent of dishonest dealings. Dr Chanda said Government had been working tirelessly to restore the confidence in the public health system, but regretted that some unscrupulous individuals were still taking advantage of people who were seeking health care services. The Minister said he would not allow the image of the health sector to be tarnished by a few individuals. He said the happenings at the UTH should serve as a stern warning to all would be offenders across the country.
