WHO KILLED OUR GIRL?
LINDA SOKO TEMBO writes  A 22-YEAR-OLD woman has been found dead in unclear circumstances in Lusaka’s Kuku Compound in the infamous Ngwenya Dam. The family of Justina Phiri, who was found dead and half-naked in disused quarry in unclear circumstances on Monday, want justice to prevail over her death.  In separate interviews with the Sun, the two aunts of Justina explained how their niece had gone missing and later discovered dead.    SUN: What is your name?  MS BANDA: Timechi Banda, the aunt to [of] Justina.  SUN: Tell us what happened.  MS BANDA: Justina Phiri was my sister’s daughter and she completed school last year with very good grades.  I am a resident of Kanyama. On Sunday, April 26, I visited my sister and her family. All was well. We had a good time and I went back home.  Anamwalila pano ni mwana waba sister banga. Pa Sunday enzecabe bwino. Tina seka seka.  Around 21:00 hours Justina left home and the mother was not aware that the daughter had left home. The mother tried to call her; she was told that she had gone outside by a niece.   The family tried to wait for her but she never came back home. Kuseni ba sister bana tuma phone ati sibanagone bwino because Justina sanabwele kunyumba. I advised my sister to call Justina’s friends. The mother responded that her daughter had left her phone home when she went outside. I advised them to report the matter to the police.  Shortly, bana tuma phone futi ati Justina apezeka ku damu. Ife sitizibavinacitika. Sitinakambisane na voyipa. Anachoka cabe kunja. The site where Justina’s body was dumped We are all shocked that she died in such a manner. We do not know what happened. She was found in the dam. She did not have any injuries on her body but her skirt and chitenge wrapper were missing. She only had on a [pair of] pant[s], top and bra. She also had her patapatas.  The men who retrieved the body from the dam are the ones who covered her with a chitenge material. We really do not know what happened.  Our appeal to Government is that they should consider fencing the dam before more lives are lost because this dam has killed many people.   Another aunt of Justina’s, Bertha Phiri, urged Government to fence the dam because many lives had been lost, including that of their daughter. MS PHIRI: It’s very sad to lose a child after she has grown up and completed school with good results.  If there is anyone involved in the death of the girl, we want justice. We want to know who spoke to her last. The Sun
