NOEL IYOMBWA writes POLICE have dismissed reports that two United Party for National Development (UPND) officials have been arrested for notifying them over their intention to hold a protest. Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo, said the statement circulating on social media was fake. Ms Katongo said that police had not arrested anyone in connection with the planned protest and advised members of the public to ignore the statement. “There is statement circulating on social media alleging that we have arrested two UPND members for notifying us of their planned protest. The statement is fake because we did not issue that statement,” she said. A statement has gone viral on social media alleging that police had arrested and detained two UPND youths for notifying them over their intention to hold a peaceful protest. The statement further allege that the two wanted to protest on issues affecting their lives and the nation at large. The two have been identified as UPND Information and Publicity Secretary Mainda Simataa and Matomola Likwanya and that they were arrested after delivering a letter notifying police over their intention to hold a peaceful protest. The statement further claims that efforts by the UPND to have them released proved futile and the duo is expected to spend a weekend in the cells. The Sun
