Warthog poacher jailed 3 yrs

@SunZambian A 29-YEAR-OLD farmer of Kafue has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for unlawful entering of the Lusaka National Park and hunting an animal without a licence. Appearing at the Kafue Magistrates Court before magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli was Gift Chiyokoma of Shantumbu village accused of entering a game park without authorisation and hunting a warthog weighing 61kg without a licence. Facts of the matter was that, on 4 April 2020 at Kafue in Kafue district of the Lusaka Province, Chiyokoma unlawful entered the Lusaka national park without authorisation and he accepted the charge. On a second count, Chiyokoma unlawful hunted a game animal namely a warthog using a wire snare without a licence. Magistrate:  Did you enter the park and hunt the animal? Chiyokoma: Yes Magistrate: What did you use? Chiyokoma: I used a wire snare and dogs. Magistrate: Did you have a licence? Chiyokoma: No Magistrate: What made you do what you did, entering the park without authorisation? Chiyokoma: I was looking for money In ruling the Court said Chiyokoma had accepted the charge and did not waste courts time and therefore sentenced him to three years in prison with hard labour.
