By JACKSON MAPAPAYIVANDALS have destroyed plants and flowers on the Independence Avenue in Solwezi, much to the chagrin of the local authority. The flowers were planted to create a climate resilient environment as well as beautify the North-western capital.Solwezi Municipal Council Town Clerk, Bonewell Luanga, said the local authority took a deliberate step to plant as many trees possible to lessen the impact of global warming. He was speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation.“The plants play an important role to the environment, but it is very disappointing to see plants and flowers being destroyed,” Mr Luanga said.He said vandalism and theft were against the council’s development agenda.Meanwhile, the Mr Luanga said the council has received K1.6 million Constituency Development Fund (CDF) intended for the community-driven projects.Mr Luanga stated that the proposed project development would commence as soon as all formalities were in place to ensure development was taken closer to the people. The Town Clerk said that the construction of the four community centres in Kapijimpanga, Kimasala, Sandang’ombe and Kamalamba wards had commenced with works progressing well.He noted that in Tumvwanganai ward, a market shelter would be constructed in place of a community centre to shield marketers trading in the open space.
