UPND MILITIA PLOT EXPOSED
By SIMON MUNTEMBA THE UPND is recruiting 60, 000 youths as militias to cause havoc after the outcome of the forthcoming elections. Patriotic Front (PF) media director, Antonio Mwanza said some of the militias were already in training in Mazabuka’s Nega-Nega area and Lusaka’s Chawama compound. But UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said the claims were baseless and mere propaganda of the PF. Mr Mwanza said youths were expected to disrupt peace in the country once PF was declared winner of the August 12 election. He said this at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday. “As we are speaking right now, the UPND are organising 60, 000 youths in Lusaka. They are organising these youths and they want to have what they will call a social contract signing with these youths. They plan to do these activities on the 10th and 11th August in Mandevu. “The whole idea is that when they go to Mandevu with these youths at Heroes Stadium the police will go there to stop the illegal gathering. “The UPND will then unleash those youths into Mandevu and Matero to burn vehicles and kill people. This is the plan that they have hatched,” Mr Mwanza said. He said the PF was aware that UPND leaders had no interest in peace because they had realised that they do not have numbers to win the elections.  “As we are speaking right now, we have identified three places, one in Nega-Nega and two in Chawama, where UPND are training young people to be militias,” Mr Mwanza said.
