Mulenga Musonda writes@sunzambianTwo balls of Cannabis have landed a 25 years old Choma man into cleaning the Court premises for 30 days after he was convicted of trafficking in Marijuana.In this matter Brian Silewu was charged and convicted for Trafficking in Psychotropic Substances contrary to the Laws of Zambia.Particulars of the offence are that Silewu on October 23, trafficked in 2.6grams of Cannabis a herbal product of Cannabis Sativa without lawful authority or medical recommendation.When he appeared for a statement of facts before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri, he admitted that the Facts read to him were a true reflection of what happened on that material day.According to the statement by Public Prosecutor Pearson Chilumbu, the accused was apprehended from his house after Drug Enforcement Commission Officer received information that he was selling controlled drugs to the public.Despite him explaining to the Court of his life’s challenges that he has three children, looks after his mother and epileptic wife, Magistrate Phiri sentenced him to 6 months imprisonment with hard labour.She however suspended the sentence for 12 months and committed him to 30 days community service, and in default to serve 3 months simple imprisonment.
