TopStar announce Match A Kwacha education fund

MATHEWS NDANDULA writes EXCEPTIONAL school children are expected to benefit from an education fund set up by TopStar Zambia under their corporate social responsibility programmes to help support their education in light of the financial strain of Covid-19. Recently TopStar acting chief executive officer Brooklyn Liu announced the Match A Kwacha Education Fund where One kwacha from every decoder purchased will be channelled to support high flyer pupils who may not be able to carry on with their education owing to failure to pay their school fees. Speaking during a media briefing held at Mulungushi International Conference Center recently Mr Brooklyn said the fund which will begin running on August 1 would benefit school children across the country. “This initiative will run for an initial period of two years and then a review will be done to either revise the terms and conditions of the fund. Topstar recognises the importance of education hence the initiative,” he said.  “As a good corporate citizen and in line with our mission to Enable Every Zambian family have access to affordable television, Topstar in conjunction with Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation and the Ministry of General Education introduced a free education broadcasting channel to help the pupils both in primary and secondary schools have access to quality education from the comfort of their homes and reduce the risk of the corona virus infections,” he said. Pupils from non-examination classes have access quality education through this channel whether subscription has been paid or not, Mr Brooklyn said. The Match A Kwacha education fund is part of the company’s contribution to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic which led to the closure of most learning institutions four months ago. The Sun
