Thieving employee jailed 9 months
MULENGA MUSONDA writes THE Choma Magistrates Court has slapped a nine months jail sentence on a shop assistant for stealing sewing materials from his employer. Alex Kaoma, an employee of Abdalah Enterprise was appearing before senior resident magistrate Idah Mupemo in a case he was charged with theft by servant. Particulars of the offence were that Kaoma stole three rolls of sewing materials valued at K3, 000 the property of AbdalahEnterprises. The theft happened on January 20, 2020 in Choma District of Southern Province. When the matter came up for defense yesterday, after continued denials by the accused person, he asked the Court that he retakes plea. When the Court granted him the application and read the charge to him, Kaoma willingly admitted the charge and asked the Court to forgive him for wasting its time. Magistrate Mupemo then convicted Kaoma after he admitted that what the witnesses testified was the true reflection of what had happened. Despite being a first offender and pleading guilty, the court sentenced Kaoma to nine months imprisonment with hard labour. In passing the sentence, Magistrate Mupemo said the offence was too rampant in the jurisdiction and his conviction would send a message to would be offenders. Kaoma was informed of his right to appeal within two weeks to the High Court if he felt aggrieved. The Sun
