THE CONSTITUTION WILL BE REVIEWD –SAYS HAIMBE
By ADRIAN MWANZATHERE will be a review of the constitution to address lacunas, newly appointed Justice Minister Mulambo Haimbe has said. Mr Haimbe said that there was need to have a holistic approach when dealing with a review of the constitution. He said an efficient legal system would enable correctional facilities to be decongested because cases would easily be disposed of unlike what was happening. The minister said this during the Update Programme on ZNBC yesterday.“There is need to enhance the delivery of justice in the country and one way of doing that is to think outside the box to achieve our intended goals,” he said.Mr Haimbe said even his predecessors had tried to push for reforms and he was hoping with the support from the stakeholders this would be achieved. He said that he would work closely with institutions like the Law Association of Zambia and unlike the past when the two institutions were at loggerheads.Mr Haimbe said there was need to channel resources that were available to ensure that the justice system was improved. He said that there were certain aspects like the Bill of Rights which could only be amended after a referendum.
