MULENGA MUSONDA writes A 19-YEAR-OLD woman has been convicted by the Choma Magistrates Court for trafficking in controlled drugs, this was after she attempted to smuggle Heroin and Cannabis to a suspect she was visiting at ChomaCentral Police Cells.  In this case case Purity Simudombwe stood charged with two drug related offences. In the first count the 19 year old stood charged with trafficking in 0.12grams of Heroin. In the second count she was charged with trafficking in 3.12grams of Marijuana a herbal product of Cannabis Sativa. She was apprehended on 4th May 2020 at Choma Central Police Station when she attempted to smuggle the contraband to her husband who was in custody. When she appeared for Facts before Senior Resident Magistrate IdahMupemo, she admitted that the facts were a true reflection of what happened. According to the facts, Simudombwe was apprehended by Choma Police Officers when she attempted to smuggle the drugs concealed in a cigarette packet to her husband Tineo Phiri who is also facing drug related charges in the same court. The Officers upon checking the Packet that had Cigarettes discovered that there were 2 sachets of heroin and 2 balls of cannabis. The Police then alerted the Drug Enforcement Commission who later charged and arrested the suspect for the subject offence. After convicting her, Simudombwe pleaded with the court to exercise maximum lenience as she had left two children home with no one to look after them. She further told the Court that someone just gave her the packet to give her husband without checking the content. Magistrate Mupemo after considering her mitigation and circumstances of the offences committed her to 9 weeks community service in default to serve 6 months imprisonment. The Sun
