By AARON CHIYANZOZAMBIANS should seriously take up fish farming as this will contribute to the country’s food security, President Edgar Lungu has advised.President Lungu also said the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) will start disbursing funds to qualifying beneficiaries once a board for the commision is put in place.He however said crop diversification should not be overlooked as citizens take up fish farming seriously.The President said this yesterday when he participated in fish harvesting from the State House ponds. “In our quest to boost fish production, we should not overlook crop diversification. We should ensure that our staple food maize is sufficiently grown, including soya beans among other crops,” Mr Lungu said. President Lungu, together with members of a multipurpose cooperative from Siavonga, also participated in fish growing and fish pond management tutorials conducted by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.The cooperative expressed delight at the lessons they learnt in fish farming, saying they will help them manage their own fish ponds.Others who participated in the training were Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Jean Kapata, Presidential Affairs Minister Freedom Sikazwe, Chilanga Member of Parliament Maria Langa and State House officials.Meanwhile, President Lungu is saddened by the death of Chief Kasoma Lunga of the Unga people.President Lungu observed that the country had lost a number of traditional leaders in the recent months and has sent a message of condolences to Luapula Province Minister Nixon Chilangwa..He wished the bereaved family and the Unga people of Lunga God’s guidance as they mourn Chief Kasoma Lunga, whose original name was Mr Kasongo Muchembe.This is according to a statement issued by special assistant to the President for press and public relations, Isaac Chipampe.
