State withdraws mechanic theft case

 OLIVER SAMBOKO writes THE case in which a Lusaka mechanic was appearing before a Magistrate’s court for stealing motor vehicle spare parts worth K50, 000, took a twist after the state prosecutor who was handling the matter discontinued it. When the matter came before court, the prosecutor, Ms Chipo Gula, applied that it be withdrawn because it was a civil case in which the court granted her wish. Two weeks ago, when the matter came for continued trial, the same prosecutor applied to the court to have the matter adjourned so that she could seek legal opinion from her superiors. However, the complainant in the matter, a Lusaka businessman, Mr Chrisantius Changwereza, said he was not satisfied with the decision to withdraw the matter from the court  and vowed to follow up the matter. In this matter the mechanic, Cliff Simbule, aged 50 of Chilenje, was appearing before Magistrate Betty Malupenga facing one count of theft contrary to the laws of Zambia. Particulars of the offence were that Simbule allegedly stole car parts from his client, Mr Changwereza’s car between July 16, 2019 and November 13, 2019. Simbule is accused of stealing one motor vehicle Maffira, a computer box, key set, radiator, number plate, saddle, inside black grill, burner heat cooler and other parts all worth K50, 000 The Sun
