Squatters in uproar over illegal fees

NOEL IYOMBWA writes SOME unknown people are collecting money from broom makers from Western Province who are squatting at Buseko market, The Sun has learnt. According to a source who is a squatter, some people within Busekomarket are charging the traders for operating and squatting near the market. He said that for one to operate and have space at the area, they need to pay to some market officials. And when contacted for a comment Matero Member of Parliament Lloyd Kaziya said that it was unfortunate that some people have taken advantage of the poor and vulnerable traders who travel a long distance to make a living in the capital city. He said that people who struggle to earn a living need to be supported rather than milking them out of the little they earn. The area member of parliament noted that the traders need to be found a formal trading place where they could be lodging instead of charging them for squatting. “These people come from as far as Mongu and other parts of Western province to trade so that they earn a living but for anyone to milk them out of their  hard earned money it’s unfortunate I wish I can talk to the affected traders so that I hear from them. “We are not the same in society, those that earn a living the hard way need to be supported,“ he said.
