By NATION REPORTER SPRING Television is operating illegally because any form of media whether functioning through radio frequency spectrum or an electronic communication network such as internet is required to obtain a broadcasting lincence, the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has said. IBA board chairperson, Mabel Mung’omba said any form of unidirectional electronic communication intended for reception by the public, section of public or subscribers to any broadcasting needs to be licensed.  “Any person wishing to operate or provide a broadcasting service in Zambia, regardless whether it would be conveyed through radio frequency spectrum or any electronic communications network such as internet, is required to obtain a broadcasting licence from the IBA,” she said. “Any form of uni-directional electronic communication intended for reception by the public, section of the public or subscribers to any broadcasting service, conveyed by means of radio frequency spectrum or any electronic communications network or combination thereof,” Ms Mung’omba said.
