SUN SPORTS writes SPORT In Action (SIA) in partnership with the Perfect Day Foundation has donated 40 blankets, 30 mattresses and warm clothing to over 200 vulnerable children and young people at Fountain of Hope in Lusaka’s Kamwala Township. SIA Executive Director Frankson Mushindu says the move is part of the organisation’s response to minimising the sufferings of vulnerable groups in the wake of both the Covid-19 pandemic and the cold-season. “We are supplementing Government’s efforts by providing a conducive environment and clothing for the children that are being transitioned from the streets to the centers because most of them have nothing on them,” said Mushindu. “It is their right to have shelter and a protective environment for them to grow as responsible citizens so that’s the reason why Sport In Action in partnership with the Perfect Day Foundation from the UK saw it fit to make this donation.” he added. According to a post shared on Facebook, Mushindu also said the provision of warm clothes, blankets and mattresses will protect the children from cold weather and save them from being vulnerable to various diseases including the Covid-19 pandemic. “We are aware that as a country, we have over 1, 000 cases and this cold season brings threats to the children who may be exposed to the cold and potentially endanger their lives by catching the virus or any other seasonal disease such as flu,” said Mushindu. He appealed to other local organisations and companies to partner with SIA to increase the number of beneficiaries in the various sites that it is operating in. This is not the first time that SIA in partnering with the Perfect Day Foundation in lending a helping hand to children and young people at Fountain of Hope. Apart from renovating a multi-purpose play and sports facility at the centre, the organisation continues to provide a monthly food grant and school support to the children and young people to ensure their educational freedom as a pathway to financial independence and success. – SIA.
