SOLWEZI FEEDER ROADS POISED FOR REHAB

By JACKSON MAPAPAYI OVER 163 kilometres of feeder roads in Solwezi district will be worked on to enhance accessibility and spur economic activities, Town Clerk Bornwell Luanga has said Mr Luanga said the roads would be rehabilitated with financial support from the World Bank and that the council was also working closely with the Road Development Agency (RDA) in the selection of roads to be worked on. “We received communication from the Ministry of Local Government and we were asked to submit roads between 100 to 150 kilometres mainly feeder roads to be worked on. The money for this project is not coming from the World Bank,” Mr Luanga said. He said the local authority would work closely with the contractor to be engaged by the Ministry of Local Government and RDA to undertake the road works in the district. Mr Luanga identified the roads to be worked on as Kivuku, Mulenga and Mayondi among others. He said priority had been given to roads leading to farming blocks to improve accessibility and ease the transportation of farm inputs and agricultural produce to the markets. “They will definitely reduce the travel time because we have also noticed that most of these roads are leading to farming blocks and it will be easier for people to transport both farming inputs and also their produce to the markets,” he said. Mr Luanga said once completed, the roads would open up the areas for more development and attract investments especially in the agriculture sector.
