Siame pleased with works at Lukashya Trades Training Institute in Kasama Government has expressed happiness with the ongoing rehabilitation works on 10 students hostels at Lukashya Trades Training Institute in Kasama district which is being done at a cost of K15 million. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher Education, Kayula Siame says she is impressed with the workmanship of the two contractors engaged at the learning institution.Speaking when she inspected works at one of the country’s oldest trades training institutes, Mrs Siame said the ongoing rehabilitation of the training Institution demonstrates the government’s commitment to the provision of a conducive learning environment for learners in higher learning institutions. “l am very happy with the tremendous work that has been done here at Lukashya Trades Training Institute by the contractors. The architectural design is also good and conducive for the learners,” Mrs Siame said. Government remains committed to the construction and upgrading of education infrastructure across the country in order to increase access to higher education among citizens.The Higher Education Permanent Secretary urged management at the institution to put in place a proper infrastructure management system to safeguard the rehabilitated hostels from vandalism. “ Students should be responsible and look after this infrastructure well. This infrastructure and the equipment we have procured for the institution should be well looked after,” Mrs Kayula said. She also urged management to boost its agricultural production to contribute to national food security.And Lukashya Trades Training Institute Principal Monica Kaniini commended the government for its unwavering support. Ms Kaniini said her management will work closely with students to ensure that the new-look Lukashya Trades Training Institute is protected from acts of vandalism.On the other hand, Lukashya Trades Training Institute Board Member Ives Bantungwa urged government to continue investing in the education sector. Father Bantugwa said the bed space at the institution will increase to 1,000 from 500 once the remaining hostels are completed.Meanwhile, Golden Horse Investment Site Engineer Kampamba Chomba said works on the three hostels are expected to be completed in two months’ time. And Student’s union vice-president Aston Siame said the student populace at the institution is humbled by Government’s gesture. “ We are grateful to Government for the massive investment that has gone into the rehabilitation of our institution. We just want to appeal to management to see how best it can improve water supply at our institution. We have a problem of water here,” Mr. Siame said. And Vocational Education and Training Director in the Ministry of Higher Education, Alex Simumba, about K5 million is needed to undertake similar works on two remaining hostels.Works on five of the hostels have been completed by Sunshare with 70 percent done on three other hostels.The Lukashya Trades Training Institute was built in the 1940s. – ZANIS
