Shonga moves to Cape Town City, targets trophies
AARON MUBANGA writes @SunZambian THE latest Cape Town City acquisition, Justin Shonga has set winning trophies with the Citizens as his target. Shonga who was speaking shortly after completing his three and half year deal to the Cape Town-based outfit thanked the management of Cape Town City for signing him. The Zambia national team striker has now set his sights on fitting into the team, helping them to win games and trophies. The Former Orlando Pirates talisman has promised to work hard for the Cape Town City fans despite them not being allowed in the Stadium right now due to the Coronavirus epidemic. “I would like to appreciate the Chairman of the club for signing me to this club. Cape Town City is a good team that has good players. Am so excited to join the club and am happy to be here, Cape Town is a good place,” he said. “I am just looking forward to fitting into the team and have a good time, work hard with the team, win games and trophies because it has a good reputation in terms of winning.” “We will work hard for the people of Cape Town and will try and achieve more for them. I’m looking forward to good days here in Cape Town. I would like to say to the fans I appreciate the support they give to Cape Town City even though we are playing in Stadiums without fans right now, we will keep working hard to make them proud,” he added. Shonga penned a three and half year deal with Cape Town City a deal which will keep him at Cape Town Stadium till June 2024. The 24 year old is widely regarded as one of the most talented players in Africa and has attracted the interest of Al Ahly and Zamalek in recent years but has struggled to find consistency since his arrival in South Africa. The lanky forward scored 16 goals and registered as many assists in 77 games for Orlando Pirates in all competitions before joining from DStv Premiership rival Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) at the end of the 2019/20 season, but his stay in Venda has been short-lived. City have now snapped up the highly-rated talent from the cash-strapped Premiership newcomers for the second half of the season as they continue to shore up their attack that lost Kermit Erasmus to Mamelodi Sundowns in the off-season. Shonga started just four league games for TTM since joining the club, scoring one goal as he now enters a new chapter of his career.
