SHODDY WORKS DISAPPOINT CHIEF MPEZENI
By SIMON MUNTEMBA PARAMOUNT Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people has bemoaned the lack of seriousness by some Zambian contractors to deliver quality services when awarded contracts in infrastructure development. The traditional leader said for a long time, some local contractors had been failing to implement projects awarded to them by the Government. He expressed disappointment following the shoddy works done by a contractor on some dams in his chiefdom. Paramount Chief Mpezeni said in an interview that a named local contractor who was engaged to work on some dams in his chiefdom, abandoned the projects when records indicate that he was fully paid, while others did shoddy works. “Uyu muyakine ethawa koma government yemupasa ndalama zonse (this other local contractor abandoned the project despite being paid),” Paramount Chief Mpezeni said. He advised government to carefully scrutinize local contractors engaged to work on  projects to avoid shoddy works and losing resources. The traditional leader also said people that certified the completion of such shoddy works should be brought to book because tax payers’ money went to waste.
