Shakafuswa hails cop for cornering murder suspects
NOEL IYOMBWA writes FORMER Katuba Member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa has commended Zambia Police for bringing to book suspects who murdered his cousin and later dumped her body near Chingwere cemetry. Maureen Kasune was allegedly murdered after she got on a vehicle of suspected thugs who pretended to be travelling to Kabwe.  “I want to thank the Zambia Police Service for their effort and dedication to work for arresting 5 suspects who were involved in the murder of my cousin Maureen Kasune and others who died or were injured by this group of thugs who preyed on innocent victims at Heroes Stadium.  “In this era when people’s confidence in the Police is at a low because of politicizing the force, it is good to learn that professional officers still exist in the Service. I commend the Officer in Charge Emmasdale Police Station. Kudos to the Officers from Lusaka Division, Chief Inspector Mola Lipalile and team for their professional detective effort. Can’t wait for the Inspector General of Police to encourage the officers by promoting them,”Mr Shakafuswa wrote on his Facebook page. Between October 2019 and 5 July 2020 a group of thugs targeted travelers, mostly women, travelling from Lusaka to unknown destinations hiking motor vehicles from SOS area and later ended up being attacked. Others were being trailed after disembarking from public transport motor vehicles and were later trailed and hacked. All these attacks happened during early and late hours of the day but recently the Minister of Home Affairs, Steven Kampyongo announced that police have arrested five suspects in connection with various crimes committed in Kabangwe, SOS, Ngwerere and Kabanana of Lusaka ranging from murder, Aggravated Robbery, Rape and Unlawful wounding. Police have since called on members of the public who could have been victims of attacks that were experienced in the recent past in Lusaka’s Kabangwe, SOS, Ngwerere and Kabanana areas to report to Emmasdale Police to help identify the recovered items and suspects. Police spokesperson Esther Katongo announced that during investigations, police recovered among other items mobile phones, cloths, hand bags, travelling bags and instruments used to attacks victims. Some of the properties have been identified while others have not yet been identified. The Sun
