SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY NEEDS TO BALANCE UP THE ECONOMIC SHAPE OF ZAMBIA!
Dear Editor, EDUCATION in Zambia needs to develop strongly on science and technology to improve the local economy into a manufacturing base. My best topic in secondary school was preparation of gases generally from the scientific point of view and I loved preparation of both Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide from a scientific sense. After so many years of about 15+ years today and this morning, I stood up to teach Grade 11 pupils about preparation of oxygen where I have remembered a couple of stuffs such as potassium permanganate, potassium chlorite, hydrogen peroxide and manganese (vi) oxide or dioxide. I loved chemical sciences unfortunately I never pursued anything in chemical sense at professional level but I do appreciate colours in paints mostly made out of these chemicals. The nation needs to develop a strong passion towards science and technology to improve the economic landscape. Our economic architecture has failed to produce substantial products to counteract depreciation of the local currency as we have failed to massively produce for the readily available regional markets in southern African countries especially for DR Congo, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Angola etc. KELVIN CHISANGA.
