ROBBERS IN MFUWE MURDER SECURITY GUARD
A SECURITY guard in Mfuwe has been murdered by thieves in a case of aggravated robbery. Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Geza Lungu, said the thieves broke into a shop owned by Simon Phiri 46, and got away with an undisclosed assorted items whose value has not yet been established. Mr. Lungu said during the course of the aggravated robbery, the thieves attacked Patrick Peyama, who was guarding the premises. He said the security guard was hit with an unknown object on the head and he died on the spot. “The thieves gained entrance and exit into the shop using the main door. Police visited the crime scene and found the body of the security guard left in the shop by the thieves,” he said.  Mr. Lungu said police have since launched a manhunt for the assailants who are believed to be on the run. “Some of the stolen items have been recovered. We are appealing to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of assailants to report to the police,” he said. Mr. Lungu said the body of the security guard has been deposited in Kamoto Mission Hospital awaiting postmortem. Meanwhile, Masauso Mumba of Kachembele village in chief Ndake’s area in Nyimba has committed suicide by hanging himself. Mr. Lungu told journalists that on January 23, 2021 around 22:00 hours, Mumba complained about chest pains and the following day around 12:00 hours, the deceased told his wife Gladys Lungu that he wanted to go and see a witch doctor for treatment. “It is believed that while the wife was preparing to accompany him to see a witchdoctor, Mumba went missing from home until he was found dead in the bush the next day on January 24, 2021 hanging on a tree,” he said. Mr. Lungu said the matter about Mumba’s suicide was reported by his uncle Sakulani Lungu, 66. The body of the deceased was discovered around 17:00hours on January 24 by his brother-in-law Shepherd Mumba. Mr. Lungu said police visited the scene and found that no foul play was involved and advised the family to immediately bury the body
