Police recover guns, money from bandits

PETER SICHALI writes POLICE in Nakonde have recovered three AK47 riffles from bandits that robbed Manyanya Shopping Complex in Nakonde in which over K81, 000 was stolen. Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Joel Njase said the recovery comea after successful interview of Jason Simbeye who was arrested last week. “This morning at about 03:00 hours the suspect led a team of Officers to the recovery of three (03) AK47 RIFFILES x 58 rounds of ammunition from Chitambi Village, Chief Waitwika in the Nakonde district in the house of Chrispin Siame 39 who is on the run the brother-in-law to the suspect in custody male Jason Simbeye,”Mr Njase said. Mr Njase said the incident occurred on Friday around 09:40 hours at Manyanya Shopping complex situated at Nakonde Town Center, along the Great North Road in the Nakonde District in which K81, 672.00, the property of Manyanya Shopping Complex was robbed by two (2) armed male persons.  Mr Njase said recovered firearms were bearing serial numbers 2364 by 18 rounds, 56/1 by 19 rounds and 831/17 by 21 rounds. He said the firearms were kept in a green bag while eight (8) headstock masks and one hammer were also recovered from a black bag. The Commissioner of Police also recovered K 9,000 from the house of the mother to the suspect identified as Theresa Nakaundi aged 54 of Kaombwe Village in Chieftainess Waitwika’s area in the Nakonde District. “According to the suspect he had given the money on the day the robbery was staged to  help with the construction of her house,”Mr Njase said. He said the firearms, hammer, headstock masks and the recovered cash have been kept as exhibits while investigations into the matter continues. The Sun
