Police ready to marshal polls, says Katanga

By SIMON MUNTEMBA WE are more than ready to ensure law and order is maintained before, during and after the August 12 elections, deputy Inspector General of Police Charity Katanga has said. Ms Katanga said the police command has put in place adequate measures to foster peace before, during and after the August 12 general elections. She explained that the Zambia Police Service has rolled out the electoral security plan aimed at ensuring the elections were free of violence. The electoral security plan for elections, she said, which was launched in February this year was aimed at setting the frame work on which the police shall prepare policing of the general elections. “I can therefore assure you that as police, we are more than ready to ensure law and order is observed before, during and after elections,” Ms Katanga. She saidpPolice would ensure that officers work diligently in line with the recently launched Electoral Security Plan and ensure guaranteed peace in the country. Ms Katanga has also urged the media to report responsibly and not to report in a manner that could incite disorderly behavior from members of the public.
