By NATION REPORTER POLICE must take a firm stance against unruly political cadres to avoid making the country ungovernable, the Zambian DNA has said. Zambia DNA spokesperson, Spuki Mulemwa said reports that UPND cadres attacked a police station in Nakonde and injured two officers was not only an affront on the rule of law, but also signified a serious threat to peace and the rule of law in the country. Mr Mulemwa said there were reports of violence in various parts of the country, some resulting in the loss of life yet the police were not doing much to stop the lawlessness. He said in an interview that it was worrisome that the police who were supposed to protest citizens were now victims of political violence. “Then who will protect us citizens if police are also victims of political violence. They must take a firm stance against these cadres and engage their leaders,” said Mr Mulemwa. Mr Mulemwa said every Zambian expected the UPND leadership to tame their cadres from taking the law into their own hands especially that they were aspiring to form Government. He however said the UPND leadership was mute because they were the architect of the violence that had rocked their strongholds.
