POLICE HOLD TALKS WITH POLITICAL PARTY LEADERS IN PEMBA

Police in Pemba have urged all Political candidates in the district to abide by the public order Act guidelines and the new campaign regulation for door-to-door campaign and road shows as opposed to political rallies in order to avoid antagonism with the police and maintain a peaceful campaign in the area. Officer Commanding for Monze, Gwembe and Pemba District Robert Ngosa explained to the candidates contesting elections at different levels in the district during an interactive indoor meeting yesterday at Pemba Police Station that the objective of the meeting was to have a dialogue between the police and political party leaders on how to have a peaceful campaign in the district especially in relation to the new COVID-19 campaign regulation which was given by the Electoral Commission of Zambia. Mr Ngosa has since implored  political party leaders and candidates in Pemba to tame their supporters during the campaign period because they listen more to their leaders than any other person and further demanded for their door to door campaign programs in order to avoid clashes.   Mr Ngosa has further warned political parties against abrogating the new campaign regulation of not conducting political rallies as the police will not hesitate to bring the offenders to book as a supreme law enforcing agency. Meanwhile both the Patriotic Front Parliamentary Candidate Gerald Hamucenje and a UPND parliamentary representative Mr Abel Msichili thanked the Police for inviting them to dialogue. The two appreciated the message delivered by the Police Officer commanding and promised to share the message to other political leaders.
