MUKWIMA CHILALA writes IN its quest to promote COVID-19 prevention guidelines among athletes, the Olympic Youth Development Centre Zambia (OYDC-Zambia) has donated face masks worth K5,000 to several sports associations. OYDC –Zambia Board of Trustees chairperson SimangolwaShakalima handed over the items to representatives of the Disability Sport Federation Zambia, Table Tennis, Taekwando, Volleyball and staff of the OYDC. He was hopeful that the gesture would be a continuous process and that more sports federations could continue to benefit. And Shakalima reiterated that the sports facility was committed to spearheading youth development as well as making a difference in the lives of the surrounding community. He said that aside from sport development, one of the areas that the sports facility centered on was sports development for people with special needs as it promoted inclusive sport. He said that the sports facility was strategically located in sense that it was easy to access and that it had facilities that catered for different sports federations who had continued to render support to centre. Shakalima, however, bemoaned the challenge that the lack of activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic adding that it called for innovation from all sports federations. He noted that the COVID-19 era had challenged athletes to become resourceful in maintaining fitness hence the need to introduce electronic training. Shakalima said the sports multi-facility body was looking forward to the pandemic ending so that they could start interacting with athletes and continue developing talent. He has re-emphasized the need for athletes to comply with the COVID-19 guidelines so as to remain safe and come back fit when games resume at the centre. Shakalima was in company of OYDC –Zambia Board of Trustees member Wana Msiska and Chief Executive Officer Fred Chitangala. The Sun
