No need for fare hike – taxi drivers

SANFROSSA MANYINDA writes @SunZambian THE Copperbelt Taxi Drivers Association (CTDA) has described as unnecessary for some taxi operators to hike fares, citing the shortage of fuel. CTDA Secretary General, Sydney Chileshe, said it was unnecessary because the situation was slowly getting back to normal as per Government assurance. Mr Chileshe therefore said the association would not think of hiking the fares without approval from the Government. He said that members of the association could only do that after receiving a go ahead from Government. Mr Chileshe was speaking an interview with the Daily Nation in Kitwe. As an association, we will continue working with the Government of the day and will always follow its guidance. Hiking fares is unnecessary because the situation has improved in almost all the areas,” he said. Mr Chileshe explained that the association gave a strict directive to members against the act as it would go against the rules of the association. He added that he inspected other districts in the province and realised that the situation was better than it was a few days ago. Mr Chileshe advised motorists to serve the interests of the people and not rush in making decisions which he described as illegal.
