NO CHANCE FOR SELFISH POLITICIANS, DECLARES UCZ BISHOP
By PETER SICHALI SELFISH and power-hungry politicians will not ascend to power because God has already chosen leaders for Zambia, United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Muchinga Presbytery Bishop Festus Chulu has said. Bishop Chulu said it was unfortunate some politicians’ desire to ascend to power was motivated by greed, fame and to enrich themselves. Bishop Chulu has meanwhile advised politicians to avoid tribal and hate speech to preserve the peace and unity the country has enjoyed over the years. “As the church in the region we will continue to condemn tribalism, regionalism and hate speech because it is not part of Zambia’s culture,” he said. Bishop Chulu urged Zambians to elect leaders who have a heart for the country. “As we elect leaders next month, let us vote for leaders with a heart for the people, like the late founding father Dr Kenneth Kaunda who had put the country’s interest first during the struggle for independence,” Bishop Chulu said. He said it was shameful that there were politicians who were promoting tribalism and regionalism to ascend to power. Bishop Chulu said the church in the region would not condone tribalism and regionalism. “Zambians should not allow politicians to divided them on the basis of region, tribe, race or political affiliation because we have always been one Zambia, one Nation as propagated by the late KK,” Bishop Chulu said. Bishop Chulu said it was important for Zambians to remember that there was life after elections and people should continue living as one.
