By NATION REPORTER NATIONAL Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) has registered one million principal members on its health insurance scheme. NHIMA Director General, James Kapesa, said this during a media engagement meeting in Lusaka yesterday. Mr Kapesa said the new principal members had been registered from the public sector, private sector and ordinary citizens who include the elderly and physically challenged. He explained that the current NHIMA membership now stands at 40 percent from the initial four percent translating to 250 members. He explained that the one million milestone has moved NHIMA’s health coverage from four percent to 40 percent indicating that seven million Zambians have access to quality health care services. He added that it was becoming possible now that every Zambian regardless of their social status would have access to quality health care. Mr. Kapesa also said they were targeting to register about 1.7 million principal members by end of June.
