NEVERS MUMBA DARES POLICE IG
By ADRIAN MWANZA NEW Hope Movement for Multi Democracy (MMD) has challenged Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja not to play double standards in the delivery of justice in the country. Dr Mumba said he was shocked that the Inspector General of police had issued a directive that political leaders should stop distributing masks. He said there was need to level the playing field as most opposition leaders felt that the ruling party was advantaged since President Edgar Lungu was distributing face masks to citizens unhindered. Dr Mumba said the police must be objective because the head of state and other senior PF members were seen distributing face masks to people in various towns. ‘’The question I want to ask is, do you want us to just wait for the ruling party to massacre the opposition at the alter because that is exactly what is happening right now as the distribution is seen as a campaign gimmick,’’ he said. Meanwhile, Dr Mumba said that Covid-19 was real and political parties must not put people’s lives at risk all in the name of canvasing for votes. He said his party had followed all the guidelines and expected all the political players to do the same thing in order to level the playing field. Dr Mumba said he was not shocked by the reaction from some opposition leaders who also started the campaign of distributing face masks because they felt the president had an advantage over them hence them joining too. ‘’I just want the police IG to reconsider his stance and ensure that all the political players refrain from the activity and not a situation where one individual is allowed and the rest are barred,’’ Dr Mumba said.
