‘My husband phones his girl-friend in my presence’
MARY PHIRI writes A Ndola housewife has told a local court that her husband makes phone calls to his girl friend in her presence. Edith Chanda 38, of Kaloko Township told the Kabushi Local Court that she has proof that a woman of the same township had been flirting with her husband. Chanda said this in her defence in a defamation of character case against her by Ellen Kabwela, who dragged her to court. The case before local court presiding magistrates Mildred Namwizye and Evelyn Nalwizya. Kabwela 39, had earlier testified that her name has been dented by Chanda, who accused her of going out with another her husband. Kabwela sued defamation of character and was claiming compensation. She said that Chanda had been accusing her of going out with her husband for a long time and had been telling people in their community that she had broken her marriage. “Enough is enough, I have decided to sue her because it’s too much, my name has been dented,” Kabwela said. But in defence, Chanda told the court that she had proof that her husband was going out with Kabwela.  She said Kabwela once answered her husband’s phone when she called. “I have even got proof that her number is in my husband’s phone because the two communicate and I have also called her before on his number, even my husband calls her in my presence,” she said. Chanda added that Kabwela was just guilty that everyone in their community had known her ways which was the main reason she rushed to court. In judgement, the court dismissed the case of defamation of character and advised Kabwela to stop communicating with other people’s husbands on the phone. “Chanda has told us that your number is in her husband’s phone, you should have stopped communicating the first time she approached you,” Ms Namwizye said.
