Mwense accident claims one life

ONE person has died on the spot while two others are battling for their lives at Mwense District hospital after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned. Mwense District Commissioner Geoffrey Chipampata who confirmed the accident to ZANIS in Mwense, named the deceased as Ronald Mponda aged 35 of Mwense township. Mr Chipampta said the accident happened yesterday around 07:20 hours at Kanyemba village along Mwense – Mansa road. He explained that the driver of a Toyota Vitz car registration number ASB 2316 was in the process of overtaking a Zhong Tong bus registration number AIB 8814, but due to excessive speed, the driver lost control and overturned. The District Commissioner said due to the impact of the accident, one passenger died on the spot, while two others who were in the same car sustained injuries and were rushed to Mwense district hospital for medical attention. He said the Vehicle was extensively damaged and is parked at Mwense Police station. Efforts to get a comment from Luapula Province Police commissioner proved futile as his mobile phone went unanswered by press time. – ZANIS The Sun
