THE Zambia Police Service in Muchinga Province has revealed that Isoka District in the region has the highest number of people in possession of illegal firearms.Muchinga Police Commissioner Engineer Joel Njase disclosed this to ZANIS in an interview on Thursday.Engineer Njjase noted that Isoka district alone recorded 128 illegal fire arms (muzzle loaders Guns) which have been confiscated and forfeited to the state.The commissioner disclosed that others are Chama district that recorded 71 guns, Mafinga district 25 Guns Mpika25 guns, Chinsali 10 guns while Nambuluma had one gun totaling to 260 guns.He said it is illegal to possess a gun without license in Zambia in accordance with the firearm act chapter 110 of the laws of Zambia which states that any arms or ammunition which have become the property of republic by virtue of subsection(1) of a fore forfeiture can be sold or disposed of.Commissioner Njase said the provinces received 260 guns from various station between January 2020 and September 2020.He has further appealed to citizens with illegal guns to surrender them to the nearest police station willingly.Commissioner Njase further stated that whoever shall be found with an unlicensed firearm shall be arrested and sent to court for the illegal possession of a firearm. – ZANIS The Sun
