MULENGA MOSUNDA writes A 42-YEAR-OLD female Marketeer pleaded not guilty in the Choma Magistrates to stealing 3 Bales of Chitenge Material and Slippers collectively valued at more than K30,000. In this case Lweendo Mweetwa of Choma’s Mwapona Township is jointly charged with Masha Hansali 24 of the same township. The two are facing two Counts of Theft contrary to section 272 of Chapter 87 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia. Allegations in count one are that the duo jointly and whilst acting together stole 3 Bales of Chitenge Materials valued at K28,200 the property of Elvis Simbeye. In the count two, Lweendo and Hansali are accused of stealing 25 pairs of Adult Slippers and and 5 pairs of Baby Slippers all valued at K1,855 the property of Precious Naloba. The thefts are alleged to have happened on 18 May 2020 in Chomadistrict of Southern Province. When the two appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate IdahMupemo for plea, they strongly disputed the allegations levelled against them thereby compelling the Court to enter pleas of not guilty in both counts respectively. After recording pleas of not guilty, the state applied to have the matter adjourned to a later date so it can secure the attendance of its witnesses at the next sitting. The matter was adjourned to 25 June 2020 for trial and the police bonds for the two accused persons was extended. The Sun
