A man of chief Chikwanda’s Kamwanya village in Mpika district has died after allegedly being assaulted by known persons in November last year.  The man, aged over 50-years-old, sustained a deep cut on the nose and suffered general body pains in the assault.  Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Lizzie Machina confirmed the development to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Mpika yesterday and said the incident happened on November 24, 2020 around 18:00 hours. Ms. Machina disclosed that John Njelesani, aged 56, who was a Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU), died at home in Kamwanya on February 1, 2021. “The deceased person was allegedly assaulted by known persons of the same village on 24 November 2020 around 18:00 hours,” she said. She added that fists and kicks are alleged to have been used in the act.  Ms. Machina explained that police in Mpika have since apprehended one suspect and instituted investigations that will lead to the arrest of other suspects who took part in the alleged beating of the deceased. She said the deceased’s body has been deposited to Mpika urban clinic mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations to ascertain the cause of death.
