LUNGU’S CRUSADE AGAINST EARLY MARRIAGES WINS KUDOS
By MARTIN AKENDE in Mkaika CHIEFTAINESS Kawaza of the Chewa People of Milanzi constituency in Katete has commended President Edgar Lungu’s fight against early marriages and early pregnancies. The traditional leader observed that his participation in the fight against the practice has seen significant reduction in cases of early marriages. “I want to encourage you to continue being a champion of the fight against early marriages, because of your active involvement we have witnessed a reduction of early marriage cases here in Milanzi,” said Chieftainess Kawaza. She said this when President Lungu paid a courtesy call on her at her palace in Milanzi. Meanwhile, Chieftainess Kawaza commended President Lungu for the competitive Food Reserve Agency maize and soya beans buying prices saying this will empower her subjects during this year’s marketing season. She also commended the government for the various development projects in the area such hospitals and schools. And President Lungu encouraged the traditional leaders to strengthen their working relations with government because they better understand the challenges their subjects face. He said traditional leaders have the interests of their subjects at heart unlike politicians.  President Lungu assured Chieftainess Kawaza that the challenges raised about Kapoche Day Secondary School would be addressed to ensure the girl-child was not affected at the school. Meanwhile President Lungu assured Senior Chief Mbangombe of the Chewa people in Mkaika that Government will soon complete Kafunkha Day School. Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on him, President Lungu assured the traditional leader that Government will construct a boarding in the area. He said the government remains committed to ensure development is rolled out to all corners of the country without leaving anyone behind. He made the assurance after Chief Mbangombe expressed concern at the lack of a boarding school in the area contributing to the low progression rate of pupils.
